FIGUREHEADS FOR COLLECTORS
As historical artifacts, ship’s figureheads have become highly collectable.
Their subject matter can range from heroic figures in Greek mythology, representations of famous figures from history, down to simple portraits of the ship’s owner, or his wife or daughter.
These often capture the grace and simple aptitudes of a by gone era to create a sense of presence in many a collectors home or place of work.
In re-creating historical figures, I attempt to embody the same quality of craftsmanship as the original. Many of my figureheads are inspired by those now in maritime collections. And with my reputation as a professional ship carver well established, become collectable in their own right. Most are carved to commission, and therefore are shown as examples of what is possible. Others are carved on spec, and are available for sale.
