The commission was to design a Paschal candle holder for St Francis of Assisi church in Bournemouth
This Romanesque styled church was built in the 1930’s and the design of the holder was to mirror the bold uncluttered architecture of the church. The red oak of the figures sides contrasts with the lightness of the front and back constructed in ash, the striking grain of which emphasises the rising nature of the figure which depicts the resurrection of Christ on one side whilst the reverse has the downcast face of his crucifixion
